creating better environments
Tessera and Westbond

Our Tessera and Westbond carpet tiles may be synonymous with quality, but we are always looking for ways in which to improve our production processes and product constructions to make them more sustainable:

Ultrasonic Tile Cutting
Our ultrasonic tile cutting process reduces the waste by 80% compared to traditional press cutting methods. The little waste now generated is sent for recycling into road repair material or to a "waste to energy" facility.

Forbo has been using ultrasonic cutting for over a decade and has prevented approximately 5,000 tonnes of waste going to landfill.

Reducing Yarn Waste
Investment in reprocessing has reduced the amount of yarn waste from production of Tessera carpet tiles sent to landfill by 75 tonnes.

Natural undyed wool
Our Westbond Natural range is produced using pure and natural undyed wool, and has a recycled backing, produced using up to 74% recycled PVC.

Reducing installation waste
Tessera Mix, Forbo's random lay and batchless carpet tile range reduces installation waste to 2% and avoids the need for attic stock.

Recycling backing waste
The bitumen backing on Tessera carpet tiles is sent to waste to energy facilities.

Contributing to Recycling Initiatives
Forbo are also supporters of several external initiatives which promote both the use of wool as a natural raw material and also the recycling and re-use of carpet tiles.

Carpet Recycling UK

Forbo works in conjunction with Carpet Recycling UK to encourage the recycling of carpet and carpet tiles across the UK.
