Reduce, Renewable, Reuse, Recycle

The key to our success in implementing our environmental policies lies in the application of our "4 R's" - Reduce, Renewable, Reuse, Recycle.
A number of initiatives have been rolled out across the business, and it is our commitment to continuing and improving on the success we have already seen that will help us to achieve our environmental aims.

Reduce: energy, landfill, raw material consumption
Forbo's product development is focused on reducing the use of virgin raw material and developing processes and products that result in the lowest proven environmental impact as measured through LCA.

Renewable: electricity, natural & sustainable raw materials
Our use of renewable electricity now accounts for over 86% of the total electricity our 12 manufacturing plants consume, while in 2010 on average over 36% of our products were made up of renewable materials.

Reuse: production waste across all sites
95% of all production waste is recycled back into our products, contributing to less raw material depletion and reducing the need to produce virgin materials

Recycle: product and sampling take back schemes
As well as cross-plant recycling within our own company, Forbo also looks to contribute to post consumer waste recycling and the return of samples via schemes such as Carpet Recycling UK and our Save a Sample scheme.
