Flax plants used to make Marmoleum
Marmoleum

Marmoleum, our own brand of linoleum, is a natural product made from 97% natural raw materials, 70% of which are rapidly renewable, along with a 40% recycled content. The key raw materials used in its production include linseed oil, which comes from the flax plant seeds, wood flour from controlled forests and jute, the natural backing onto which the linoleum is calendared.

Linseed Oil
Linseed oil, the key material in linoleum production, is obtained by pressing the seeds of the flax plant. Oxidizing the oil creates a thick spongy mass we call cement, which forms the basis of linoleum.

Rosin
Rosin is a binding agent that, together with linseed oil, gives our linoleum its strength and flexibility.

Wood flour
Wood flour from controlled forests is used to bind pigments, ensure colourfastness and optimise a smooth surface. It is the secret to why our linoleums maintain the beautiful, vibrant colours throughout their lives.

Limestone
Very finely ground limestone is used to achieve a specific density in our linoleum.

Pigments
The most beautiful colours are created using ecologically responsible pigments. Forbo's pigments therefore do not contain heavy metals such as lead and cadmium.

Jute
Natural jute is used as a backing onto which the linoleum cement is calendared.

Ecolabels

In addition, Forbo's Marmoleum complies with more environmental quality marks in the world than any other flooring product.

BAF Seal of Approval
Marmoleum is the only resilient floorcovering to have been awarded the British Allergy Foundation Seal of approval due to the fact that it has a positive impact on the lives of allergy sufferers.
